Alt Text Detail map of the areas around the Denali Visitor Center, including the Murie Science and Learning Center and the Wilderness Access Center in Denali National Park and Preserve. The three sites make a wide triangle across the northwest edge of a cluster of trails. Extended Description The locations of the three centers (Denali, Murie Science and Learning, and Wilderness Access) will first be described before other sites nearby. This will be followed by the river, creeks, trails, and transportation routes before describing amenities represented with symbols. The Centers The Denali Visitor Center is near the center of the map. The Murie Science and Learning Center is just to the northwest, and the Wilderness Access Center is farthest away, to the northeast. Together they curve up and over a Railroad Depot, McKinley National Park airport, an amphitheater, mercantile, showers, laundry, dump station, and a post office. The three centers and surrounding areas are criss-crossed with a river, creeks, trails, a bike path, railroad, and roads. Rivers, Creeks, Roads, and Trails Moving from east to west, the Nenana River curves along the eastern edge of the preserve. State Route 3 runs north-south next to the river and crosses over it near Wilderness Access Center. Park Road enters the map from the lower left corner and curves up and over to connect the three centers and join with State Route 3. The trails make a web of black dashed lines across most of the park. To the east, Jonesville Trail connects Park Road and State Route 3. To the south, Triple Lakes Trail runs alongside Riley Creek before meeting McKinley Station Trail. To the west, Rock Creek Trail flares north along Rock Creek before moving east to complete a loop with Meadow View and Roadside trails, which parallels Park Road below. To the northwest, Mount Healy Overlook Trail leads to Mt Healy Overlook, which measures 3,500 feet (1,066 meters). The Alaska Railroad runs north-south, crossing State Route 3 and Riley Creek before passing Horseshoe Lake to the north. Amenities Four bus symbols line Park Road where it curves over the three centers. Text next to a bus symbol in the legend above explains, “Area hotels may offer patrons shuttle services. Ask at the Denali Visitor Center or the Wilderness Access Center.” There are campgrounds near Riley Creek and a site marked, “Riley Creek Day Use Area.” Park Headquarters are near the southwest corner of the map near a site labeled, “Sled Dog Kennels (no parking).” Reddish-pink text near the left edge of the map reads, “The Park Road stays open to headquarters at Mile 3.4, and could be open farther into the park, based on weather conditions.” A scale at the top left corner measures 0.5 kilometers and 0.5 miles.
