Alt Text Map of Wupatki National Monument in Arizona, which is outlined in green and shows the area’s topography. The monument is nestled between the Coconino National Forest to the southwest and the Navajo Indian Reservation to the northeast. Extended Description The Coconino National Forest is a square-shaped territory in the southeast corner that takes up about two-thirds of this map. The wide, rectangular Wupatki National Monument sits along the top right corner of the forest sharing much of its northern border. The Wupatki National Monument flares east and south off the forest territory with a step-like boundary. The Navajo Indian Reservation curves in from the top right corner to the Little Colorado River, which brushes the northeastern border of the monument. The Antelope Prairie, Doney Cliffs, Wupatki Basin, and Deadman Wash cross the center of the park. The Visitor Center of the Wupatki National Monument is located near the bottom edge of the park, just inside the shared perimeter of the Coconino National Forest. Next to the Visitor Center is Wupatki Pueblo, which has a self-guiding loop trail. The Citadel Pueblo, which has a self-guiding trail; Nalakihu Pueblo with a self-guiding trail, Lomaki Pueblo with a self-guiding trail, restrooms, and picnic areas; and Box Canyon dwellings are located in the northwest corner of the monument. The Wukoki Pueblo, which also has a self-guiding trail, is in the southeast corner of the park. Interstate 89 runs up the height of the map, cutting through the top left corner of the park. The red Loop Road connects Wupatki National Monument in the north with Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument to the south. There, within the Coconino National Forest, the left half of this area is yellow and labeled Bonito Lava Flow. The Lenox Crater and Lava Flow Trails begin along the southern edge of the Bonito Lava Flow, and the Cinder Hills Overlook is across the monument on the eastern edge of that territory. Surrounding the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument are the Visitor Center and Bonito Campground to the west, a Lava Flow further north, and the Painted Desert Vista next to the Kana-A Lava Flow to the northeast. Legend A scale in the top left corner of the map measures distances of 1 and 4 kilometers and 1 and 4 miles. A legend in the lower right quadrant reads as follows: Thick red line with black semi circle on top of its center for Overlook or pullout, Thick gray line for Unpaved road (inquire locally for condition), Black dashed line for Trail, and And Yellow for Lava flow. To the right of the legend, a column of symbols represent Campground, Picnic area, Self-guiding trail, Ranger station, and Restrooms.
