Alt Text Map of the Pensacola Bay area of Gulf Islands National Seashore in Florida. Most of the land is shown as brown, the parks are green, the space of a naval air station is gray, and the surrounding water blue. Extended Description Pensacola Bay stretches from the lower left corner to the upper right of this map. The towns of Pensacola and Warrington are to the north, the Pensacola Naval Air Station to the west, the tip of a long peninsula entering the map from the east, and narrow islands that make almost a continuous band on the far side of Santa Rosa Sound to the south. Interstate 110, US Routes 27, 90, and 98, and State Routes 295, 298, 727, 173, and 173 crisscross the areas around Pensacola and Warrington. In Pensacola, Cervantes Street, Garden Street, Main Street, Pace Boulevard, and the Bayfront Parkway are marked. State Route 292 leads southwest to Warrington, where Barrancas Avenue, Navy Boulevard, and New Warrington Road are labeled. Barrancas Avenue becomes Gulf Beach Highway west of Navy Boulevard, and Fairfield Drive branches north off Gulf Beach Highway. The Bayou Grande cuts horizontally away from Pensacola Bay and into Florida south of Gulf Beach Highway. The area of the Pensacola Naval Air Station is south of Bayou Grande. State Route 173 leads into the property from the left at the West Gate. To the north, New Warrington Road becomes Navy Boulevard, both marked State Route 295, which crosses the Bayou Grande and leads to the Main Gate marked “No Public Access” in all capital red letters. The Fort Barrancas Visitor Center is near the center of the air station in a green area that also includes Advanced Redoubt, Fort Barrancas, and the Spanish Water Battery. Sites nearby include the National Naval Aviation Museum and the Pensacola Lighthouse. Redoubt Bayou cuts south into this area and Duncan Road, Taylor Road, and Radford Boulevard span this zone. Moving to the east, the peninsula jutting into Pensacola Bay along the Santa Rosa Sound is connected to Pensacola by the Pensacola Bay Bridge, which is also marked US Route 98. The bridge meets the peninsula at Gulf Breeze. Fairpoint and Shoreline drives span the width of this area, and Town Point, Fair Point, Deer Point, and Shoreline Park, which has a boat launch, create a ring around the perimeter of Gulf Breeze. Butcherpen Cove curves along the northeast section of Gulf Breeze and Naval Live Oaks Area, which is outlined and filled in with green. US Route 98 turns east and passes through Naval Live Oaks Area and continues along the peninsula, off the right edge of the map. Within Naval Live Oaks Area are Bayside with a pavilion and a note reading “youth group camping only”; parking; picnic areas; Soundside with a pavilion; and Park Headquarters with a ranger station. A toll bridge also marked State Route 399 crosses the Santa Rosa Sound to connect Gulf Breeze with Pensacola Beach, represented in brown, in the lower right corner of the map. Route 39 continues east as Via de Luna Drive to the edge of the map, where a note reads, "To Santa Rosa Area.” The Florida National Scenic Trail runs the width of Pensacola Beach, continuing west to Santa Rosa Island, which turns green near the entrance station. Fort Pickens Road travels alongside the trail to pass, from east to west, two parking areas, sites with a pavilion, swimming area, picnic areas, Campground Registration, which has a ranger station, and Loops A through E, which have campgrounds. On the western tip of Santa Rosa Island are an Amphitheater, Battery Worth, Battery Cooper, Battery 234, Fort Pickens, and a Visitor Center. A narrow body of water separates Santa Rosa Island from Perdido Key to the left, on which can be found the Site of Old Fort McRee and the Ruins of Batteries 233, Slemmer, and Center. Three passenger ferry routes make a triangle that spans Pensacola Bay. One stop is at the Downtown Pensacola Ferry Terminal in Pensacola. One route leads south and then east, past Gulf Breeze and to a Ferry Terminal on Pensacola Beach near the toll bridge. Another route leaves Pensacola to head southwest to a Ferry Terminal on the western tip of Santa Rosa Island. Finally, a route connects the terminal on Santa Rosa Island with the one on Pensacola Beach. Legend A scale in the upper right corner of the map measures 2 kilometers and 2 miles.
