Franklin D. Roosevelt spent the night at Lake Crescent Tavern on September 30, 1937. During the visit, leaders of the country, the state, and the Forest and Park Service met at Singer's Tavern (now Lake Crescent Lodge) to discuss the proposal to establish Olympic National Park. These three cabins, built in 1947, are called fireplace cabins because of their fireplaces with fieldstone chimneys. Two are single family cabins and one is a duplex. These buildings exhibit modern stylistic influences of the mid-1940s such as an emphasis on horizontal lines, low-pitched roofs, and large, multi-light windows. Olympic National Park
