Mr. George F. Emery
Superintendent
Gettysburg National Military Park
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 17325
Dear Mr. Emery:
I am very apologetic for not having thanked you long ago for receiving me so graciously on March 24th. After my visit to your office I returned to Washington and the next day travelled to New York. I visited Mr. DeLue briefly enroute to my nephew’s home in New Jersey where I spent a very busy few days.
When I reached New Orleans (after a delay caused by the control personnel at the Air port) I was completely swamped by my obligations at the College. And since then I have been swamped by my own professional obligations.
Since my conference with you I have met in Baton Rouge with the Executive Committee in Mr. Gibson’s office. At that time it was thought best to plan the dedication of the Louisiana Monument at Gettysburg for sometime in May 1971, because of the many difficulties which you and I discussed.
The Committee awaits official written approval of the extension of the contract extending Mr. DeLue’s completion date from December 1970 to April 1971 which they recommended.
Also I have again visited Mr. De Lue’s studio on May 25 and as Consultant recommend to the Commission the approval of the full size clay models of the Louisiana Monument. I have just received a copy of Mr. Gibson’s letter to Mr. DecLue informing him that the Commission approved my recommendation. Mr. De Lue is hoping to erect the foundation this summer and I know will be in touch with you at the proper time.
I know that Mrs. Letteer, as Chairman will also be in touch with you but I wished to tell you of the results of the meetings which solved some of the problems you and I had discussed.
With kind person regards and appreciation for your curtesy and cooperation,
Sincerely,
[Signed]
Angela Gregory
