Manzanar War Relocation Center hospital, Manzanar National Historic Site, 2016.
Photo date unknown. Over 110,000 Japanese Americans were betrayed by their country and forced to live in one of ten military-style internment camps, like Manzanar, during World War II. Many women became mothers behind barbed wire, their children taking their first steps in the shadows of guard towers. Others protected their families when involuntarily from their homes, forced to raise their children in tar-paper barracks. This historic site exists so that we may never forget what happened here.
