A pair of tall bronze candlesticks. The base of the candlesticks are composed of carved snails that act as feet. The shaft of the candlesticks are composed of different reeds that supports a nest. Inside the nest are baby birds. There are three flower cups that extend above the nest.
These candelabrum (c. 1850-1868) designed by August Nicholas Cain depict birds' nests, mice, and snails. They are believed to have been originally purchased for Theodore Roosevelt parents' home on West 57th Street in Manhattan. They are located on the mantle in the Library in the Theodore Roosevelt Home.
