Superintendent
Gettysburg National Battlefield Park
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
Dear Sir:
If I am correctly informed, Mississippi is the only Confederate State which does not have a monument on Gettysburg Battlefield. Assuming this to be correct, I would like to present the matter to our Legislative bodies now in session.
Of course, I would need the following data:
A. (Approximately) current cost of monuments erected by other Confederate States. (Perhaps there are post card pictures of these monuments with such information. At any rate, I think some type of picture would be impressive.)
B. Procedure for securing site on which to erect Monument to Mississippi Confederate dead.
C. Any problems which might be expected in securing desirable site.
It will be deeply appreciated if you will give me the benefit of your counsel in this matter, at your earliest convenience. To expedite, a stamped, self-addressed envelope is enclosed.
Sincerely yours,
Ed. C. Sturdivant
