Water Cistern Interior

Digging for a well was not an option in the salt marshes of the Matanzas River. The soldiers relied on collecting rain in this cistern. This photo was taken as part of a survey of the fort in 1978. The tank is thirteen feet deep and about eight feet in diameter.
