Frances (Appleton) Longfellow to Emmeline (Austin) Wadsworth, 3 May 1854
Manuscript letter
Dear Emmeline,
My thought have been much & anxiously with you, & I rejoice with you that your darling is better. May you now have a long rest form such bitter cares! My baby is to be christened tomorrow afternoon at five, & if you feel able to drive out with Livingston I shall be most happy to have you present, especially as my own family are all away. There will be no one else but Ma [p. 2] ria Goodwin & the children. I should not have chosen just this time but I asked my brother Sam to officiate & he has not been able to come before & cannot again until August, & we did not foresee such a scattering of the household.
I was very sorry the rain prevented my getting into Boston Saturday to see you as I hoped. I trust both little invalids are beginning to recover strength.
ever yr loving
