HAFE - Upper Bolivar Heights
Park and regional staff evaluating site conditions at the Upper Bolivar Grassland Restoration Site in Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
Bolivar Heights, located within Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia, holds a significant place in American history, particularly during the Civil War. The area was the site of several important military engagements, most notably during the Battle of Harpers Ferry in September 1862, when Confederate forces under General Stonewall Jackson captured the Union garrison stationed there. The strategic high ground of Bolivar Heights provided a commanding view of the surrounding area, making it a key defensive position during the war.
