South Core Banks, looking up island -- before and after Hurricane Florence

Looking north (up island) from the top of the lighthouse. A large overwash fan can be seen coming almost all the way across the island. The ocean side dunes have been flattened. On the sound side a small tongue of sand has been carried into the sound waters where the overwash came out of the marsh.
