With over 22,000 people employed at Y-12 shift change was just a normal part of the work day in 1945. Mostly high school graduate age women kept production operating 24 hours a day seven days a week. With three shifts working round the clock in nine calutron buildings sights like this was a normal part of the work day during the war.
