Polygamist Era Cabin By 1928, two separate communities occupied the area with little to do with each other: the polygamists at Lonely Dell Ranch, and the USGS river gagers at Lees Ferry. In the midst of this isolation, Jerry Johnson filed a homestead claim with the US General Land Office in August of 1929. The land patent was granted in May of 1933, and Jerry Johnson immediately sold it to LDS officials. In turn, they sold it to Leo Weaver the following year. Weaver, who intended to transform the ranch into a dude ranch operation, drove the polygamists away to protect his business interests. Lees Ferry and Lonely Dell Ranch Landscape
