Clermont Farm (Berryville, Virginia) - detail of project sign
Gravel road with green grass and blue sky on a sunny day. A fenced open field in the background. In the foreground a large sign is visible reading partially Historic Preservation Fund Semiquincentennial Program Restoration of the Main House, Smokehouse, and Springhouse.
This image is a detail of just the project sign at Clermont Farm. The fram was surveyed by a young George Washington in 1750 and is an excellent illustration of a farm of middling size that was established in the back country on the colonial frontier. The farm’s early owners were middling gentry, a class of people who became the backbone of resistance to British rule, who fought and supplied the Revolution, and helped developed the new nation. This Semiquncentennial grant (P22AP02123) will support the rehabilitation of the main house, smoke house, and spring house. The applicant will provide an estimated $43,000 in non-Federal match.
