U.S. Park Police officers Valerie Fernandes (left) and Priscilla Pepper Karansky (right) became the first two USPP women assigned to the force's horse-mounted unit. Fernandes, assigned to Gateway National Recreation Area, and Karansky, assigned to Golden Gate National Recreation Area, were among 12 recent law enforcement officers who were graduated from the USPP 12-week course, held in Rock Creek Park.
