Pitched Birch Bark Basket with Handle - GRPO 17209

Conical birch bark basket sealed with black pitch.

Birch bark makuk with seams stitched with basswood fiber. Handle is formed from braided basswood bark and rolled birch bark. The makuk is pitched on its seams with a mixture of spruce gum, grease, and charcoal. The makuk measures 23.0 cm long, 16.5 cm wide, and stands 24.0 cm tall.
