Views of smoke and burning taken from Swamp Point observation area, June 26, 2003 during the Powell Fire. The Powell Wildland Use Fire, started by lightning June 15, 2003 and declared out on August 20, 2003, was located on the Powell Plateau on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It burned approximately 3,800 acres. The fire was a low intensity ground fire and progressed down the plateau, where it burned out.
