Although it is not included in the landscape's period of significance, the Mission 66 Era of park development was another important era of visitation and park improvements. Some principles of naturalism were maintained, but the character of structures, roads, and trails changed without the craftsmanship, tools, training, and planning that had been essential during the New Deal. The rustic approach was replaced by a utilitarian approach.
