Golden-mantled ground squirrel (Callospermophilus lateralis)

A squirrel stands on a rock outcrop. A white stripe can be seen along its back, standing out amid black fur.

Golden mantle ground squirrels look very similar to chipmunks, but chipmunks have stripes on their face, while golden mantle ground squirrels have them only on their back.
