Final Proof Required Under Homestead Act,
MAY 20th, 1862.
WE, Abraham Taylor & Adam Harness, do solemnly Swear that we have known Europe Bates for 15 years last past; that he is the head of a family consisting of a wife and three children and a citizen of the United States; that he is an inhabitant of the E½ NE¼ + NE¼ of SE¼ of Sect. 34 + SW¼ of NW¼ of Section No. 35 in Township No. 2 North, of Range No. 5 East, and that no other person resided upon the said land entitled to the right of Homestead or Pre-emption.
That the said Europe Bates entered upon and made settlement on said land on the 6th day of December 1869, and has built a house thereon, and has lived in the said house and made it his exclusive home from the 6th day of December 1869, to the present time, and that he has, since said settlement, plowed, fenced, and cultivated about Fifty five acres of said land, and has made the following improvements thereon, to-wit: 1 Dwelling, 1 Corn Crib, Cotton House, Shop, + 1 fodder[?] House + Kitchen, + 2 small cabbins [sic]. And we are prevented from attending the Land Office by reason of distance and want of means, and said Europe Bates is prevented from attending the Land Office by reason of the great distance and want of means, [blank]
