Great spangled fritillary butterflies (Speyeria cybele), Friendship Hill National Historic Site, 2015.
These great spangled frittilaries are feeding on purple coneflowers (Echinacea purpurea). These conspicuous flowers are native to eastern North America and are present in the wild in parts of eastern, southeastern and midwestern United States and parts of Canada.
