Color scan of a yellowing handwritten copy of the Declaration of Independence with faded signatures at the bottom.
On August 2, 1776, an engrossed (handwritten) copy of the Declaration was signed by (most likely) 50 of the 56 signers. Thomas McKean, the 56th signer, signed sometime after January 1777. The only handwritten, signed Declaration of Independence is on display in the National Archives in Washington D.C.
