Fragment of a Late 18th to Early 19th Century Hand-Painted Blue Pearlware Vessel
Fragment of pottery white with blue and a brown edge. On a black background with a ruler showing it as 3 cm in size.
This artifact may be a fragment from a plate or saucer associated with the former colonial Spanish outpost called Fort Nogales (1791-1798)-the first recorded Euro-American settlement in what would eventually become Vicksburg. The Choctaw Nation ceded this site to the Spanish who built Fort Nogales as a defensive work in 1791. Found in the General Fill of Section T.
