6. ADAMS (JOHN QUINCY, sixth President of the United States). A. L. s., 2 pp., 4to, about 375 words. The Hague, May 12, 1783. To Francis Dana, Commissioner to Russia.
An interesting and important historical letter, written soon after Adams' return from Russia where he had served as secretary to Mr. Dana, and while he was acting as secretary to his father, John Adams, then peace commissioner to France.
The first part relates to financial affairs and secret details of communication between John Adams and Francis Dana.
"My Father will not return here before the signature of the definitive Treaty of Peace, when that will be I can't say, but it is expected every day. My Father intends to return here only to take leave, as he expects to return to our own country this summer..."
