US Park Police Officer William J. Grissam was killed in the line of duty on March 20 1932.
"US Park Police Officer Grissam struck a parked car while on bike patrol near Judiciary Square. Officer Grissam was found lying unconscious and was quickly transported to the hospital. Officer Grissam died an hour later from his injuries which included a fractured skull, broken ribs and lung damage. The coroner's report and police investigation ruled out heart ailment and the possibility of a hit-and-run driver. The investigation concluded that Officer Grissam lost control of his patrol bike and struck a parked car head-on."
