Rows of Sibley tents are shown, with litter-bearers carrying the wounded to and from horse-drawn ambulance wagons. Other wounded soldiers who have already been treated are shown milling about. In the background, to the right, is a portion of the Noah Cantrell House with light coming through a window from a makeshift operating room. Established and organized by Asst. Surgeon Bernard J.D. Irwin, Union and Confederate soldiers alike were given medical treatment in this first consolidated tent hospital, a forerunner of modern military field hospitals.
