Frances (Appleton) Longfellow to Zilpah (Wadsworth) Longfellow, November 1844
Manuscript letter
Dear Mother,
I was very sorry to hear from Annie that your Thanksgiving of last week was less merry than it should have been, & trust the cause is now removed, & that you will enjoy this one with double zest. I should be most happy to partake in it with my dear Henry, but am too timid a mamma [p. 2] to venture upon a journey with my little darling at this season. As I have so recently written Anne, - & Henry will supply whatever I have omitted, - I have nothing more, at present, to offer you than my tenderest wishes for your health - & as much love as can be conveyed in words –
With affectionate greetings to all, ever thy loving
Fanny L.

[p. 3] Give my love & condolences to Marianne whose health & that of the children is no longer, I hope, out of repair.
