2017 LeConte Gully rock fall
Light colored path from rock impacts extend from the rock fall source area down the rock face.
A rock fall near the Curry Village Residential Area and LeConte Memorial Lodge. The rock fall was loud and created a dust cloud. The source area and runout path were clearly visible on the cliff east of LeConte Gully. The rock fall consisted of a relatively thin, triangular shaped exfoliation sheet forming the bottom of a small overhang. The flake detached and slid down the lower-angle cliff below before impacting at the base of the cliff. Rock debris was confined to the talus and did not threaten any structures.
