On a reflective pond, a wooden boardwalk and black metal railings trails around green blooming pond plants. A white covered stage and manicured park are across the water in the background.
Ashley Pond hosts many events for Los Alamos, including for Manhattan Project National Historical Park. This body of water is named for Ashley Pond Jr. who established the Los Alamos Ranch School that operated from 1917 to 1943. In 1942, the US Secretary of War sent a letter to the school president to claim the property for the war effort. The Manhattan Project purchased the land and rapidly transformed the small boarding school into a top-secret laboratory.
