Windows / arches, Bryce Canyon National Park, 2015.
Windows, also called arches, are natural holes that form along cracks and weak spots in thin walls of rock called 'fins'. By convention, these holes must be at least 3-feet in diameter in two perpendicular directions to earn the name. A similar geological formation is called a bridge, with the only difference being bridges are carved by flowing water and windows are carved by anything else. Most of the windows at Bryce Canyon NP are formed by frost wedging.
