The head and upper body of a dark brownish snake with black bands, moving through vegetation.
The black rat snake is the largest and one of the most common snakes in Cuyahoga Valley. It can occur in a range of colors and patterns, from very subtle to pronounced. You might also see our Ohio ones called gray or midland rat snakes. Confusing!
