Bomb Taper, 1942-1945
Cornhusker Ordnance Plant; Grand Island, NE
Dorothy "Dottie" Doughit graduated from high school in Grand Island, Nebraska, in 1942. Though she intended to go to college, a friend told her that she was needed in the local bomb factory. She asked her father for his advice, & he reminded her that she had 2 brothers in the war. For the remaining 3 years of the war, she taped bombs after they were stuffed & capped so that the caps wouldn't come off prematurely. After the war she came to the Bay Area to visit her sister where she met & married Nino Petroni. Nino became a teacher & principal in the Richmond schools, & Dottie ran the lunch counter in the Richmond Montgomery Ward store.
