Deposition of Claimants wide concerning Property Ques 1 – My name is Mary E. Foster, I am 43 years old, and live with the claimant who is my husband. 72 – I was present when our property was taken and saw it all taken but the carriage and horse. Item 1 Hogs – We had six large hogs that we were fattening, for killing the same fall they were taken. These were all killed by some Union soldiers who camped about ½ a mile from our house on night when passing up the valley, just before a battle that took place somewhere towards Harrisonburg. I don’t remember what year it was. There were a good many soldiers engaged in killing the hogs they skinned and dressed them and carried the meat away towards the camp. I don’t know how much they would weigh they would weigh over 100 pounds each dressed. Item 2 cow – The cow was killed a year later than the hogs by some Union troops who were camped near Cedar Creek.
