People walking down a staircase into the Historic Entrance of Mammoth Cave
The Historic Entrance of Mammoth Cave is the icon of the national park. An underground stream surfaces here and falls over the mouth of the cave. Ferns, mosses, liverwort, hydrangea, wild geraniums and jack-in-the-pulpit cling to the limestone layers as natural decorations.
