Archeological excavations at the Late Prehistoric Age Hungry Fox site (KIR-289), Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve, July 2004
In July 2004 NPS archeolgists excavated the remains a a formerly substantial Late Prehistoric Inupiat village site that was being destroyed by river erosion. The site is significant for its excellent organic preservation (animal bone, wood and antler tools) and wide range of artifacts. The site is dated to about 500 years before present.
