The son of W.T. and Annie Mize Peters, Mize Peters was a boyhood friend of Harry Truman. He and his wife maintained a close friendship with Bess and Harry Truman throughout their lives. Mize Peters, like his father and uncle, became a well-regarded businessman in Independence. For many years, Peters owned and operated a drugstore on the southeast corner of the Courthouse Square, known as Peters Pharmacy. He also was active in the Boy Scouts, serving as a district chair and later, an honorary chairman. The original owners/occupants of this house are not known with certainty. William P. and LaVergne T. Bryson lived at 631 North Delaware in 1908, followed by Abram B. Peer, manager of Peer Supply Company, and his family around 1911. Wycoop Kiersted was a resident in the late 1910s and in 1920.
