Marines landing on Guam were confronted with enemy fire coming from a half mile long series of caves and dugouts. Dynamite charges were the only effective means of silencing the enemy. Here a huge column of smoke and dirt mark one section of dugout being put out of action just off of Assan Point on the Assan Beachhead.
