“Haverford 12th mo 27th 1853 Dear Richard It has been a long time since I wrote to you, but I have been so unwell that I have not felt fit for to do any thing so you must excuse my long silence. I hope you enjoyed yourself on christmas. We had holiday yesterday and we went a skating and we had fine fun and at one o’clock we came home had a first rate dinner of turkeys. I received you my welcome letter two or three weeks ago. I was home last fourth day week to have my teeth attended to, and I went to your cousins. I suppose you have a holaday for a week now do you not. We have had beautiful skating and the ice is thick enough to cut for the Ice house – and we are filling ours here. I received a letter from C.P. Miller and he is at Boarding school at crosswicks, and he says he likes it very well. You must excuse me from not writing much this time as I have got a bad coughf and it troubles me very much. [ ] you please excuse this bad scrawl as I have not taken much pains. I remain as ever Yours truly William Mellor”
