An excavator carves a deep cut that divides the snowy trail and connects the wetlands on either side. Black construction fabric unrolls in the foreground.
On February 19, 2019, workers use an excavator to cut a new channel for Stanford Run under the Towpath Trail. The smaller, canal-era culvert (out of view just beyond the bucket) had become clogged. This view straight down the trail shows how it acts as an earthen dam, restricting water flowing across the floodplain.
