Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus)

A rabbit sits alert in the shady grass with ears pointed up.

Cottontails are the most common rabbit in North America. They can have 6-7 litters within the 7 month breeding season making them an abundant food source for small- and medium-size predators. These numbers also take pressure off other prey species.
