Purple puffball flower with light green leaves on petrified wood background
Emerging from the papery white bractlets, the violet flowers of purple Biscuitroot (Vesper bulbosus) are colorful within the rosette of highly divided pale green leaves. This is usually the first native wildflower to bloom!
