No apparent changes at Eielson Visitor Center: 1938-2016
A photo pair showing No apparent changes at Eielson Visitor Center: 1938-2016
This pair of photos was taken from the Park Road looking south towards Mt Eielson. The first change visible is the shrub line in the foreground. Throughout Denali, one can see a corridor of tall willows along the road, distinct from the surrounding vegetation. Why might certain plants favor disturbed areas? What implications does this have for increased visitor traffic in backcountry areas of Denali? New clusters of shrubs have also grown below the bench in center of the photo. It’s difficult to determine if the vegetation along the river floodplain has changed. Human changes are also apparent along the landscape: a permanent hiking trail has been built. A weather station has been installed.
