The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area began studying bobcats in 1996, making it the longest-running study of the animal. The study examines the behavior, ecology and conservation of bobcats, in particular how urbanization has affected the bobcat population in the Santa Monica Mountains and Simi Hills.
