Looting, Natchez Trace 1940s Archeological Survey
A few deteriorating human burials were found in the Carr site excavation trenches. One burial was cleared of soil on a Friday, but left for recording on Monday. Over the weekend, someone entered the site without authorization and dug into the burial, updoubtedly looking for grave goods such as whole pots or ornaments. At that time, archeologists saw human remains as scientific specimens only, so Jennings decided that the damaged bones weren't worth any more time and effort.
