Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Memorial Landscape, Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Site. Sinking spring is one of the only defining features of the original Lincoln birthplace landscape. It remained in its natural formation until the War Department added stone retaining walls and stone steps in 1928.
