Hairy gumweed (Grindelia hirsutula) - June 23, 2020
A single open yellow flower and a closed bud. The open flower has dozens of long skinny petals surrounding a wide center of tiny yellow disk flowers. The larger petals are fanned down and outward. The unopened flower is covered in white foam. Small bits of its tightly wound yellow petals are peaking through the foam. The opened flower is attached to a thick dark red stem with scattered linear leaves. The leaves are covered in tiny white dots.
