The McLaws-Miles Trail loops through a field that played an important role in the Battle of Chancellorsville. On May 1, United States troops crossed and re-crossed this ground. Later, the Confederate line here served as an anchor from which Confederate forces distracted the Federal army on May 2nd, and from which they assaulted the Federal army on Mat 3.
