A round cluster of fossilized coral with many stone fins surrounding it.
Fossils can be difficult to see because they are often covered by newer cave formations such as this boxwork. This fossilized coral was converted to calcite, so when the limestone was eroded by carbonic acid as the cave was formed, the fossil was left behind. The boxwork was created after the fossil. Colonial coral fossils are difficult to spot but relatively common in Wind Cave.
