Tanks in Capitol Gorge
Pool of greenish water in the foreground, some grass and trees in the middle, with large tan and golden domed cliffs in the background, and a cloudy sky.
The tanks (water pockets, potholes, tinajas) are depressions formed in the sandstone layers that hold rain water. They are essential to desert life, and should not be used as swimming or bathing spots.
